Meet Penelope and Adelynn Mini Session

Meet Penelope and Adelynn

One of the greatest treasures that comes from my business is meeting unexpected lifelong friends along the road. We meet, laugh, relate to one another and before we know it, we’re planning future playdates with our children. The Colley family is one of those special families that I’ve come to think of as close friends.

We met initially when little Adelynn had just been born. It was the start of my career and I photographed their family enjoying one another, while my own two little boys played in the background. We quickly realized that our children were close to the same age and we’ve been friends ever since.

Penelope is a strong willed 4 year old self-professed vegan with a mind of her own. She recently decided to dye her hair “rainbow” and loves to ask questions. Little sister, 2 year old Adelynn is the quieter of the two and she has a fascination for finding and fixing objects.

Style

This session was a bit different than our regular sessions because we decided to combine the Sonoran Mini-Session with a playdate so all our kids could play together. The girls were dressed in matching denim dresses while my little guys were dressed like they always are, barefooted and in jeans. Both the Colley family and ours is very laid back and we enjoy simplistic style that gives our children the freedom to move. In fact, this simplistic style is often the most flattering to photograph. Children are not as restricted as they would be in nicer clothing and parents don’t have to worry as much if the children decide to play in the dirt, which they always end up doing! 🙂

In Closing

Although this was a session, to me, it was a day I will never forget. It was a day spent with friends letting our children run wild in our open rural neighborhood. As parents, Rachael, Jason and I couldn’t help but laugh at our children’s silly antics. It was a day that my oldest son held a girl’s hand for the first time (cue the sappy mommy tears!!). It was a day of seeing just how these two beautiful little girls have grown and seeing glimpses of the women that they someday might become. Thank you for the memories!!

Meet Yulissa and Yasenya Mini-Session

Meet Yulissa and Yasenya

Little ones, Yesenya age 5 and Yulissa age 3 joined us for our first annual “Sonoran Spring Mini Session“.  Both little girls have totally different personalities. Yesenya is quieter and more reserved while her boisterous little sister Yulissa loves to talk. Once they get going, both little girls are ready to giggle and play. In short, they couldn’t be any more precious!!

These adorable little ladies were dressed in matching pink dresses and eager to meet the ducklings when we arrived at their home for their photo-shoot. Their beautifully land-scaped backyard was perfectly suited for this mini-session, so we decided to take advantage of ready-made location and create a pixie world for the girls to play in. After several minutes of following ducklings around, the girls cozied up and played with their ducklings until it was time for us to leave. While Yulissa and Yasenya were getting used to the ducklings, we played in their bushes finding “light fairies” that magically appeared every so often.

In every photo-shoot, it’s my goal to create a magical finished image that reflects a child’s natural curiosity of the world, whether they are playing in dirt or watching ducklings pass by. I tend to stray away from making children sit still and pose, however, when they are willing, I always try to capture those style smiles. This tends to make children feel more at ease because they don’t feel the need to preform and can relax into their natural state. Below are some of our favorite images from this session. Don’t they look like little fairies?!

Sonoran Spring GLAM

Meet Cecy, our first Sonoran Spring Glam Princess!

When I first posted about our first ever Sonoran Spring Mini-Sessions, I imagined flurries of little children snuggling with ducklings. It wasn’t until Miss Cecy contacted me that I realized that we could take a cute duckling set up and transform it into a magical GLAM dress up experience!

Location

One of my favorite part of these pop-up mini sessions is the chance to travel around and try out new locations. In this particular location, we had a lovely combination of greenery and desert mountains. Although we did have to walk a fair distance to find it, Cecy was a trooper and helped carry along gear while I carried a cage with the ducklings. She was also brave enough to settle herself in a bush despite the thorns and stickers.

Style

When designing this session, I wanted to go for a more sophisticated look with complementary pops of color. Cecy is absolutely gorgeous in bright shades of red, so we decided to pair her with a red dress to offset the greens, yellows, and touches of pink.  When Cecy isn’t in her bubbling shop creating wonderful bath bombs and other fun goodies, she is the Queen of “life-proof lipstick” by Lipsense. In most of these images, she is rocking Cranberry which comes out as a fabulous shiny red color. I absolutely love this brand of lipstick especially for photoshoots because it really does stay put once it’s on and it looks amazing throughout the entire session. And finally, she wore a pretty pink and red crown created by Koala Art and Design.

Props

I hate calling them props, because my family adores our little ducklings. However, one of the main elements for this mini-session was our ducklings, so after we positioned Cecy in her set up, we carefully let the ducklings wander around. Ducks are amazing at finding each other, so they will frequently stay in one spot. Mini-sessions are perfect for our little animal friends so we can make sure that they get plenty of time for rest, water, and food. What can we say? They get the star treatment!

Final Thoughts

Cecy is an incredibly supportive young woman that I’m thrilled to call one of my dearest friends. She is always up for a new adventure and she works her tail off creating absolutely fabulous products. Thank you so much for seeking me out for this idea and I can’t wait to work with you again.
